Bengaluru, Aug 7: The nation-wide strike call on Tuesday August 7 given by transport employees has received support of various organizations. But Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) staff and workers federation has not supported this call. Therefore, government buses including Bangalore Metro Transport Corporation (BMTC) are likely to offer uninterrupted services on Tuesday. Schools and colleges will function as usual, and Namma Metro services are unaffected. This has given rise to a feeling of confusion among the commuters.
The strike call for a day has been supported by auto rickshaw and taxi owners, Ola and Uber taxis drivers and owners associations. App-based auto rickshaws and taxis will not take the road that day. As such, this strike might disrupt normal life of the people.
The agitators are demanding for the withdrawal of Motor vehicles ammendment bill and extend protection to auto and taxi drivers and owners.
President of Bengaloru Tourist Taxi Owners Association, K Radhakrishna Holla, said that his association welcomes the ammendment bill to Motor Vehiclels Act. He said that because of centralizing of services including licences, private vehicle owners will get benefit and inter-state movement issues would be addressed. He said that his organization does not support the bandh call and all commercial vehicles will move as usual.
Centre of Indian Trade Unions has given a call demanding implementation of social security act for unorganized labour. It said that KSRTC and BMTC employees will hold a rally from Townhall to Freedom Park on Tuesday to demand withdrawal of the bill which aims at destroying public sector undertakings.
