Rotaract Club, ICYM celebrate tree as 'Best Friend' on Friendship Day

Mangaluru, Aug 6: In an attempt to spread awareness on importance of trees, Rotaract Club in the city and ICYM Permannur unit celebrated Friendship Day considering tree as their 'Best Friend' by tying a band on the trees saying 'Don't cut our Best Friend'.

The members of Rotaract and ICYM believe that trees are one of best things nature has provide us. Trees serve mankind in a variety of ways. Trees release oxygen which we need for our life. They purify air. They maintain balance of gases in the air. Thus they control air-pollution. They attract rain. It is very important for our agriculture. They also add to the natural beauty. Thus, trees play an important role in our life. Trees are valuable natural resource. We should conserve them with great care.



Environmentalist Madava Ullal who was the chief guest said, "Friendship is not just between people, but also with nature. It is only then can we save our nature. Fr Stany Pinto, director, ICYM Permannur unit said, "Rotaract and ICYM members celebrating Friendship Day in a unique way is highly appreciable. It shows their love toward nature as responsible leaders."

RJ Rashmi's presence added colour to the celebration.

President of Rotaract Club Mangaluru, RTR Ganesh; secretary, RTR Sheldon Crasta; ICYM Permannur unit president, Lanson D'Souza; secretary, Rayan D'Souza; assistant parish priest of Permannur church, Fr Lizel; Sr Severine Fernandes, Jaison, Shirtady, Deril, Permannur and members were present.
