Panaji, Aug 6 (TOI): Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said on Sunday said that the state government would file a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against Karnataka on Monday over its diversion of Mhadei water into the Malaprabha basin.
Parrikar also said that he has written to his Karnataka counterpart H D Kumaraswamy informing him about his state’s violation. Additionally, the chief engineer of Goa’s water resources department (WRD) has written to his Karnataka counterpart regarding the same, the chief minister said.
Last week, Parrikar informed the state legislative assembly that state government took the decision to file the contempt petition. He was advised in this regard by additional solicitor general of India Atmaram Nadkarni, who appears for Goa in the Mhadei case.
TOI had first reported that Karnataka diverted the waters of the Mhadei. Taking suo moto cognisance of the report, two teams of water resources department staff inspected the site of the Kalsa diversion.
