Moodbidri, Aug 5: A man jumped into a pond located near Lord Gopalakrishna temple and Kere Basadi at Kalsanka here on Saturday August 4 afternoon.
The victim was Munna (45) from Kotebagilu - Mariyadi here, who used to eke out a living by working on daily wage basis or by splitting logs into firewood. He was addicted to liquor, the locals said. Many had seen him on Saturday loitering in Kalsanka area since morning. On Saturday afternoon, he kept his clothes, some papers and footwear on the edge of the pond and jumped into water, it is said. A local who saw him jumping, tried to save him by throwing a rope towards him, but his effort went in vain.
A team of firemen working under the directions of fire officer, Kishore Kumar and assistant station officer, Praveen, worked for two hours and retrieved the body. It is said that Munna has left behind two wives, one of whom lives at a far off place.
The local police registered a case of unnatural death and began investigation. Lot of people had got together around the pond after coming to know of the incident.
