Mangaluru: Man who killed son gets three years imprisonment

Mangaluru, Aug 5: Through a judgement delivered on Saturday August 4, the fourth additional district and sessions court here sentenced a person who had stabbed his son to death with a knife to three years of imprisonment. He also was imposed with fine of Rs 10,000.

The accused who was found guilty in the case happens to be Basavaraju alias Raju alias Rajesh (49), resident of Basavalingappa Nagar, Pachchanady in the outskirts of the city.  The judge awarded imprisonment under section 504 of Indian Penal Code relating to use of abusive language, 326 relating to causing of grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, and section 506 relating to posing life threat. The court however, discharged him from the charge of murder under section 302 of this act.

Rajesh had stabbed his son, Yashwant (20), who was working as driver on contract basis for the city corporation, in the kitchen of his home on November 9, 2016. Yashwant, who fell to the ground with stab injuries to his chest and back, was admitted into a private hospital here from where he was shifted to another private hospital at Deralakatte. Finally he was taken to Wenlock Hospital. He died on November 21, 12 days after he was attacked.

The father-son duo often fought on small issues, and in one instance, the fight had even been referred to police station. it is learnt. On the basis of testimonies given by the sisters of the deceased and neighbours, the accused was found guilty. As the stabbing was not intended for murder, the accused was absolved of murder charge.

The then  inspector of the rural police station here, Muhammed Shariff Rauthar, had conducted investigation in the case and filed charge sheet. Judge of the court, Neralal Veerabhadraiah Bhavani, delivered the judgement. Public prosector, Harishchandra Udayavar, appeared in this case on behalf of the prosecution.
