Mandya: K R Pet tahsildar kidnapped, released by miscreants

Mandya, Aug 4: Tahsildar of K R Pet taluk in the district, K Maheshchandra, who was kidnapped by some miscreants on the night of Thursday August 2, released him on the evening of Friday. With this, the officials who were in a tizzy, have heaved a sigh of relief.

The tahsildar told the police that at around 10.30 pm on Thursday, his Maruti Omni vehicle was intercepted by three masked persons near Chikkavaddaragudi village in K R Nagar taluk, who forcibly took him away. "They let me off near Tendekere in K R Pet taluk at 5.30 pm on Friday," he explained.

Maheshchandra had been recently transferred from K R Nagar taluk in Mysuru district to K R Pet in Mandya district. He was in his office till 10 pm on August 2. He had informed the district deputy commissioner about availing leave on August 3 and 4 on account of his mother's ill health, and drove his vehicle alone. His vehicle was found abandoned near Chikkavaddaragudi village in K R Nagar taluk on August 3 morning. His spectacles, bag, umbrella and keys were found inside the car. Shirt buttons and two shoes were found scattered there, which denoted that he had a scuffle with some people. His mobile was switched off.

Even as police investigation was progressing, the tahsildar was found. Maheshchandra, who is shocked by the abduction episode, reportedly has not yet revealed to the police about who kidnapped him and why. His family is at Bengaluru and he had hired a house in K R Nagar where he stayed alone. Even after his transfer, he used to go to K R Pet from his house in K R Nagar.
