Mangaluru: MRPL distributes LED bulbs to neighbouring villages

Mangaluru. Aug 3: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) distributed energy efficient LED bulbs to the beneficiaries of its neighbouring villages at a programme held in Dakshina Kannada, zilla panchayat, on Friday, August 3. Meenakshi Shanthigodu, president, Dakshina Kannada, zilla panchayat, Kasturi Panja, vice-president, Dakshina Kannada, zilla panchayat, Dr M R Ravi, CEO, Dakshina Kannada, zilla panchayat, Sushilchandra, GGM (Corporate Strategy), MRPL, U V Aithal, CGM (HSE), MRPL and other dignitaries participated in the programme.

As a part of corporate social responsibility commitment, MRPL has been actively undertaking welfare projects in its neighbouring villages. Now, in addition to its existing CSR activities, MRPL has resolved to embark upon enterprise social commitment, which focuses primarily on the projects leading towards the betterment of the environment. As a part of its enterprise social commitment, MRPL is distributing LED bulbs to its nearby villages namely Bala, Kalavar, Permude, Kuthethoor, Jokatte, Thokur, Soorinje, Delanthabettu, Chelairu and Madhya.

MRPL is distributing around 32,000 numbers of LED bulbs amounting to Rs. 43 Lakhs to all the families residing in these ten villages. These bulbs consume less energy (14W) as compared to conventional tube lights or incandescent bulbs. Further, these LED bulbs are free from mercury making them environment friendly. These bulbs are being distributed by MRPL in association with respective gram panchayats to all the residences, anganwadis, gram panchayat office, schools, community halls, etc.

Speaking on the occasion Dr M R Ravi, CEO, ZP, complimented MRPL, and said that MRPL’s CSR activities like construction of anganwadis, toilets, bio gas plants, LED bulb distribution etc., are complementing other government welfare activities. Meenakshi Shantigodu appreciated the CSR activities undertaken by MRPL including building toilet blocks in various schools. Kasturi Panja also appreciated MRPL’s initiatives. Sushilchandra said that India’s energy needs are increasing, however non-renewable energy sources are depleting. Hence there is a need to conserve energy by initiatives like usage of LED bulbs and solar energy. MRPL has already installed roof top solar plants in its refinery premises and LED bulbs distribution is another step in that direction.

Gram panchayat presidents, vice-presidents, PDOs also took part in the programme.
