Kalaburagi, Aug 3: The bandh call given by Uttara Karnataka Horata Samiti in support of its demand for carving out a separate state comprising of 13 districts in north Karnataka on Thursday, August 2, did not get any response in most of the districts. Whatever response the call evoked was too feeble to have any effect on normal life.
Other than some protests which were organized at a few places demanding integrated development of north Karnataka, the bandh affect was non-existent. Schools and colleges functioned normally and businesses transactions were as usual.
As a precautionary measure, police force in abundance was kept ready to tackle any eventuality. Reports of a few protests having been held in Hyderabad Karnataka area opposing the bandh call have been received. At the same time, a protest seeking separate Hyderabad Karnataka state was organized at Yalburga. Protests against demand for bifurcation of the state were held at various places including Mysuru, Mandya, Chikkaballapur, and Kolar.
