Udupi: Cabinet installation ceremony of new office bearers of district Lions Club held

Udupi, Aug 2: The cabinet installation ceremony of new office bearers of Udupi district Lions Club 317C for the year 2018-19 was organised in association with International Association of Lions Clubs was held at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty auditorium here on Wednesday, August 1.

Yakshagana artist, writer, eminent businessman, Karnataka Ratna and Karunamayi Lions Club Malpe Ln Dr Thallur Shivaram Shetty was selected as the new district governor for the year 2018-19. Ln V G Shetty was selected as the first deputy district governor and Ln N M Hegade Belman was selected as the second deputy district governor.

Dr Thallur Shivaram Shetty and spouse Girija Thallur inaugurated the programme accompanied by International Association of Lions Clubs immediate past president Dr Naresh Agarwal and other cabinet members.



Dr Naresh Agarwal addressing the gathering said, “One should salute our national flag and pledge our religion to the same. We make our national flag proud by that. Lions Club is the number one club in the world in terms membership and services, but poor in contribution.

“Let us contribute Rs 100 per week. The amount will help needy people,” he said.

A resolution was passed about contributing Rs 100 per week. The money will help feeding hundreds of hungry stomachs, vaccination of children etc.

Dr Naresh further said, “There are 2,70,000 Lions Clubs across the globe. United States of America rated Lions Club as the number one club last year. We are the power of the nation. Let us show our power and I want to see changes in the future.”

Ln Girija Thallur also spoke on the occasion.

Ln K V Krishna Reddy said, “Let us show a big difference by contributing Rs 100 per week.”

Ln N S Shankar, past international director, Ln Vamshidhar Babu, international director Endorce, Ln N M Hegde, international vice president and others were present.

Dr Shivaram Thallur was administered oath as district governor on July 3 by international Lions president Jort Yangavadoti of Gudro of Island. The event took place at Las Vegas in the United States of America, in the presence of 771 district governors of 210 nations in the world.

The district Lions Club 317C of four districts Udupi, Shimogga, Dawanagere and Chithradurga, have 80 clubs and 2,600 members.

The Lions Clubs are working with the motto 'We Serve with Pride'. The club has drafted many programmes for enhancing society and upholding the dignity of the country.

The plans for 2018-19 year include protecting environment, relieving hunger, education for poor people, rehabilitation for under privileged people, AIDS awareness programme, Kannada art quits promotion, activities of image building and accident awareness programmes.

Apart from this, the district governor has drafted many projects for the year 2018-19 which include providing pure water facilities for the school-college students, providing free shelter for homeless, providing financial assistants and books distribution for students, programmes for making hunger free society, sincere effort in implementation of Swacch Bharath Abhiyan, collecting 3000 units of blood and donating it to blood bank, financial assistance to helpless artists to promote arts, increasing membership of minimum 3,000 and installing 10 Lions Club in the district.
