Puttur: Tempo - truck collision at Kavu - 12 injured

Puttur, Aug 2: After a truck carrying LPG cylinders and a passenger tempo collided with each other near Kavu bus shelter on Mani - Mysuru state highway on Wednesday August 1, 12 persons travelling by the tempo including its driver were injured. All of them happen to be employees working for Joy Soft Drinks Mangaluru's Kulai and Adyar units.

The injured have been identified as Nagamma (65), wife of Sundar Poojary from Suratkal Ilantabettu, her son, Ashok (42), Deepak (29), son of Lokanath from Hosamane Shamboor, Jyoti (36), wife of Suresh from Suratkal Krishnapura, Leela (52), wife of Ramayya from Vidyanagar Mangaluru, Siddu (25) son of Shivanand from Belagavi, Leelavathi (43), wife of Vijay from Kulai Mangaluru, Yogeesh (32), son of Jinnappa Devadiga from Balanja, Beltangady, Akshaya (23), wife of Lokanath,Mangaluru, and Santosh Poojary (30), son of Veeerappa Poojary from Kanyamangala, who was driving the tempo.

The employees of Joy soft drinks were returning after undertaking a four-day tour of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu when the accident happened. The tempo was moving towards Mangaluru via Sullia - Puttur Road, when the truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the tempo. Six men and six women in the tempo were injured. Out of them, ten have been admitted into hospital. Driver, Sathish was treated and sent home. A few others suffered minor injuries.

On account of this accident traffic on the state highway was obstructed for sometime. Sampya police sub-inspector, Abdul Khader led a team of policemen to the place and arranged for smooth resumption of traffic. On the basis of a complaint made by truck driver, Korappa Gwda, Sampya police have registered a case.
