Mangaluru, Aug 1: The health department had, sometime back, instructed the district health officer (DHO) of Dakshina Kannada to conduct inspection about the illegal supply of medicines and injections meant for the district Wenlock Hospital to private hospitals and send a report thereof. This irregularity is said to be quite big in size.
But the DHO has hesitated from undertaking the investigation. He is understood have urged the higher ups based in Bengaluru to undertake this probe. He has argued that this being a serious case, it would not be appropriate to undertake probe through local officials. He reportedly has asked higher level officials from Bengaluru to conduct this investigation.
The intelligence officials of Dakshina Kannada district had been asked by state intelligence director general of police, Arun Kumar Pandey, to provide details of these irregularities. On July 27, the district level officials had submitted their report. It is said that supplemental report is expected to be submitted shortly.
It is said that after media reports appeared about misappropriation of items supplied to the hospital, staff manning the pharmacy at Wenlock Hospital are on high alert as per the instructions of higher officials, and they have been taking abundant care not to provide any documents or information to outsiders.
