No site finalised for relocation of offshore casinos: Goa CM

Panaji, Jul 28 (IANS): No other feasible site has been finalised yet for relocation of Goa's offshore casinos, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Assembly on Friday.

In response to a question by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo on the details of the plan to relocate casinos on the Mandovi river off Panaji, Parrikar said in a written reply: "The government has decided to remove the casinos from Mandovi but till today no alternate, feasible site has been finalised and the matter is under examination."

The Chief Minister said that a gaming commissioner would be appointed to regulate the casino industry after December 2018 after "framing requisite rules".

Six licensed offshore casinos function from North Goa's Mandovi river, while nine are licensed to operate from five-star resorts dotting the coastal state.
