Mangalore, Oct 8: Dr G V Joshi was felicitated in the Academic Council Meeting of the autonomous St Aloysius College for being nominated as a member of the Karnataka State Planning Board.
Prof G V Joshi, professor of economics in Mangalore University, is also the University nominee on the academic council. Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal and Prof A M Narahari, registrar, while felicitating Prof Joshi, said that it was an honour for Dakshina Kannada district and with his wide knowledge and experience, he would be able to contribute constructively for the development of the state.
Academic Council meeting of the college was held recently. Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal presided over. Prof A M Narahari, registrar was present. Altogether 51 members including nominated members like Prof Abdul Rahiman, former vice-chancellor, John Prasad Menezes, Prof G V Joshi, Dr A M A Khader and Prof Patrick Tauro participated.
The meeting was informed that the college has started five new PG programmes from the present academic year. There are 14 PG programmes and various under-graduate programmes under six different faculties at present. Although the results of the I semester was somewhat down, there is a significant improvement in the results of the II semester. It is a clear sign that the students are getting adjusted to autonomous schemes. The college has acquired new facilities including a separate building for commerce and management courses. It was also informed, that a separate campus of international standard is being built at Beeri, near Kotekar. The new campus will become functional from the next academic year.
The academic council approved the proposal to start two new PG programmes from the next academic year- M Sc in Nanotechnology and M Psych in Human resource development and management.
Syllabus and regulations relating to 26 courses were modified on the basis of the recommendations of the concerned BOS.
The college will start a new diploma programme in vermitechnology and a post graduate diploma programme in human resource management (Evening Course) for the benefit of the general public from the next academic year.
The college will hold convocation for the PGDBM and PGDCA qualified candidates as they have completed the course under autonomy.
