Kundapur, Oct 7: Congress candidate Shanker A Kunder won the zilla panchayat (ZP) by-polls for Kota constituency on Monday October 6. He won with a margin of 665 votes against his closest opponent from the BJP.
Kunder secured 9,341 votes while BJP candidate Jagannath Amin secured 8,676 votes, of total 18,296 votes cast. There were 279 invalid votes. The counting of votes was held in four rounds that began at 8.00 am on Monday and the result was announced at 3.30 pm.
Previously, BJP candidate Poojary had won the ZP polls with a margin of 1,080 votes in a triangular contest with independent candidate Jayaprakash Hegde and the Congress.
The by-polls have enabled the Congress to gain a majority in the ZP with a majority of 14 seats against the BJP’s 11 seats.
