Mangalore, Oct 4: Mangalore University Gandhian Studies director Prof P L Dharma requested the teachers to conduct deep studies on the life and philosophy of the father of the nation.
He was speaking to a gathering in Tagore Park here, at the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations organized by Mahatma Gandhi Foundation on Thursday October 2.
Pointing at the recent communal clashes, he stressed the fact that violence does not beget peace, as seen from history. He wanted those who are sincere in learning about Gandhiji, to conduct experiments for themselves and find out truth through such experiences as advised by him, which is far better than gaining knowledge through preachings and rhetorics.
Dharma felt, that the youngsters do not want to conduct any experiment with the truth. They seek happiness always, and shun Gandhian literature, thinking that studying them is not of any benefit for them. Students always seem to feel that the 'Gramodyoga'(village industries) are irrevelant in the present context.
Stressing that Gandhiji and B R Ambedkar belonged to the same school of thought, he lamented that presently, caste-based analysers have succeeded in picturising them as totally different. "We should come out of myths and study deeply about these two great leaders," he exhorted.
