Mangalore, Oct 2: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district co-operative fish marketing federation, on Tuesday September 30, decided to initiate the setting up of retail outlets of fresh fish in the hinterlands. The decision was arrived at during the annual general body meeting of the federation presided over by Y Gangadhar Suvarna, president of the body.
The meeting was attended by representatives of primary and women’s co-operative societies and federation members. It was also decided to avail government assistance to advance loans to fisherwomen at an interest rate of three percent.
Another matter discussed was setting up of a diesel-filling station at Bengre, near old port, through the Indian Oil Corporation and to procure cool boxes with full government subsidy for storage of fish by fisherwomen.
