Mangalore, Oct 2: The World Future League (WFL) will focus on cricket talent in the 14 - 17 age group, which could be the future of tomorrow. An inaugural cricket tournament ‘WFL T20 Asia Cup,’ will be held in Hyderabad from October 19, 2008 to January 24, 2009, informed Joseph Rego, chief executive officer, WFL.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday October 1, he said that there was a lot of politics in the selection of cricket players in India. Therefore, real talents have not been given the opportunity to play at the national and international level. WFL will give preference for talent and no scope will be given for politics and influence, he added.
Rego said that the the selection process had started and New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns was the brand ambassador of WFL. Squads of 15 from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will play in the floodlit WFL Cricket Cup at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad.
About 25,000 people will be at the stadium to enjoy cricket in a carnival-like atmosphere. The success of this tourney will lead to ‘WFL T20 World Cup,’ which would be held across India in 2010, added Rego.
