Mangalore, Sep 30: In the light of the recent disturbances in the state and elsewhere and taking into account the ensuing Navaratri and Ramzan festivities, the policemen here are leaving nothing to chance. Security has been beefed up all over the district.
In addition to the existing police force, additional personnel from the Karnataka State Reserve Police(KSRP) force and the Rapid Action Force, have been deployed in the district. Police sources said, that several KSRP contingents have been stationed in sensitive areas. Night patrolling and checking of vehicles at the entry points into the city have also been undertaken as additional measures.
Udupi superintendent of police Pravin Pawar said, that the security in that district has been intensified for the festival season. Bomb Disposal Squads have been undertaking the verification at important temples, where metal detectors have also been erected. Police protection has been extended to important mosques and churches. Police security will also be provided at places where the idols of Goddess Sharada are being installed, he added.
The district will be availing of the services of four contingents of the state reserve police, each of which have 30 personnel. Check posts have been set up at Shirur, Hejmady, Bajagoly and Nejar to check infiltration of anti-social elements, Pawar narrated.
