Kundapur, Sep 29: In an accidental fire, the first floor of a house located at Koteshwar near here, was gutted alongwith cloth and other belongings. Losses due to fire, is estimated at around five lac rupees.
On Sunday September 28 morning, the fire was started, after a burning lamp placed in front of a deity in the first floor of the house, somehow fell down. No loss of life or burn injuries were reported. However, clothes and other items stored therein, were reduced to ashes.
The house belongs to Raganath Bhat, a vegetable vendor, located near car street, Koteshwar. The people living in a house in front of the ill-fated house, saw smoke emanating from the first floor and drew the attention of Bhat's family. By then, flames had already devoured a large portion of the upper storey.
The local people including rickshaw drivers tried to douse the fire. Fire brigade personnel assisted them later. In a complaint filed with the Kundapur police station, the family said, books, clothes, furniture etc., were burnt in the fire.
