Bangalore, Sep 29: Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist and engineering student Mohammed Sami (23), who is a native of Bijapur, was arrested by the central crime branch police on Sunday September 28, in connection with the serial blasts here.
Joint police commissioner Gopal Hosur, who gave this information, said that the above accused was produced in a city court, and his police custody was secured from there. Hosur revealed, that Sami played a key role in the serial bomb blasts that shook the city on July 25 this year, and he has already given some very important informations on the happenings.
Sami, son of Ahmed Bagewadi living in Channakeshavanagar, Bijapur, is a final year architecture student of Bijapur engineering college. Based on the information extracted from him, the policemen have taken into possession a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike parked in the Bijapur central bus station.
Sami had visited the city a day before the bomb blasts. The accused had claimed, that the motor bike in question was a stolen one. He has been remanded to police custody for 14 days and he is likely to be subjected to scientific tests.
The policemen claim, that he had taken part in many important meetings organized by SIMI and it was decided at these meetings, to undertake retaliation through violent means, for the demolition of Babri Masjid and Godhra carnage. It is also said, that the SIMI activists planned terrorist attacks on tourists of foreign origin all over India including Goa.
The police had grown suspicious over Sami's activities even prior to the Bangalore blasts and after finding his movements suspicious, they took him into custody. It is said, that the SIMI activists gave him the above motor bike. The bike was aimed to be used to set off blasts in the state.
The policemen claim, that SIMI had conducted camps at Castle Rock in uttara Kannada district and Wagaman in Kerala in which Sami too took part. He has relationsips with Safdar Hussain Nagori, Hafiz Hussain alias Adnan, Shibli, Taqeer, Shahbaz, Bassar and other militants belonging to SIMI.
