Mangalore, Sep 23: Dakshina Kannada district 'Pourakarmikas' and the Class IV employees union will hold a semi-nude demonstration from the old taluk office to the deputy commissioner's (DC) office on Wednesday September 24. They are demanding regularization of 130 daily wage Pourakarmikas as per the apex court order, and also meeting of demands of regular Pourakarmikas.
Addressing press persons here on Tuesday September 23, S P Anand, organizer, Dalita Sangharsha Samiti, said the state government had been lukewarm towards the Pourakarmikas demands. 'The present government is busy with vote bank politics. “We have been submitting memorandums to the government for a long time. But no action has been taken in this regard,” he added.
Anand said they would intensify the protest over the coming days and as part it Pourakarmikas will stop working from October 2.
Union leaders Siddappa Ballalbagh, Monappa, Suresh Ballalbagh, and K Anil Kumar Kankanady, were present at the press conference.
