Mangaluru, Jun 21: Self help groups promoted by Canara Organization for Development & Peace (CODP) at Mulki reached a milestone on June 17 when they inaugurated their long time dream of forming a co-operative society ‘Uddheshitha Unnathi Christian Minority Co-operative Society’.
This historical event was presided over by Fr Sylvester D’Costa, the parish priest of Mulki church, who appreciated the efforts of CODP and local SHG federation Unnathi.
Fr Francis Xavier Gomes who was instrumental in having the society registered explained various efforts that had gone in the establishment of the society and the leadership exercised by the local SHG members. He wished the society all the success saying, “Let the services of the society reach all.”
Fr Oswald Monteiro, director of CODP, compared this event to the sowing of a mustard seed of the Gospel parable and expected it to grow into a mighty tree. It is not profit that would be counted for success, he said, rather it is ‘working together’. He promised all the support required.
Earlier, Thomas D’Souza, convener of the society, in his welcome and introductory speech explained various activities that had gone before the inauguration and requested co-operation from all.
The vice-president, the secretary of PPC of Mulki church along with Pushpaveni, the animator of CODP and Lydia Furtado, president of Unnathi Mahasangha were present on the dais.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Raymond Rebello, one of the office bearers of Unnathi federation.
