Mangalore, Sep 23: District unit of PUCL will appoint People's Tribunal headed by MF Saldana to probe attacks on Churches in the district.
Addressing the press persons here on Monday September 22, P B D'Sa of PUCL said that Saldana would visit the vandalized churches on September 27 and would submit the report to the government within five weeks.
He said, "PUCL and other human rights organizations of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states have visited the vandalized churches, spoken to the people and police department. Superintendent of police informed that they have not received a single case on forcible conversion so far."
D'Sa also said that police have joined Bajrangdal activists in vandalizing the Churches at Permannur and Kulshekar. "We wrote letter to NHRC. Government must suo motto initiate an enquiry into the attacks on churches by Bajrangdal", he added.
Tamil Nadu Scavengers' Union president Kondavallai, Human Right Organization’s Estar and Tamil Nadu PUCL secretary Balamurugan were present at the press conference.
