Panaji, Jun 21 (IANS): Two "road romeos" were arrested on Wednesday for creating public nuisance near a school in Goa's coastal village of Calangute, police said.

Police have also proceeded to cancel the registration of their modified vehicles, which did not have number plates, police officer Jivba Dalvi told reporters.

"Two 'road romeos' were arrested for rash and negligent driving on the road outside the school exactly when the session ends at around at 2 p.m.," Dalvi said, adding that the two were endangering the lives of students exiting the school.

The accused have been identified as Somnath Chanappa Mansingh, 21, and Vivan Manuel Camilo, 19, residents of Nerul village in north Goa, 20 km from here.

They have been booked under Sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of Goa Children's Act 2003 (endangering children).

"Police are also taking relevant action under Motor Vehicles Act as the vehicles are without any number plates and have rocket silencers. A letter is being moved to the Directorate of Transport for cancellation of the registration. The owners of both the vehicles are also being summoned by police for interrogation," Dalvi said.
