Moodbidri, Jun 20: Veteran photojournalist, journalist and artist, Raghava Shanbhag (83),breathed his last late night of Monday June 18 at his residence at Hanumanth Nagar here. He is survived by wife and three sons including photographer, Rajesh Shanbhag.
Koodlu Raghava Shanbhag, who was a native of Koodlu in Honnavar, had begun his life as painter and photographer in the medical department of KMC Hospital Manipal early in his career. Later, he worked as photographer for 'Navabharata' Kannada newspaper at Mangaluru. As photographer he had captured several memorable incidents like Goa independence struggle, Nehru's visit to Mangaluru, Indira Gandhi visit to Manipal and several others. He also worked as reporter for 'Navabharata' and as cartoonist for highly popular daily caricature column of that newspaper, 'Shinganna'. He widely covered various temples in his photographs and started the first color laboratory in Dakshina Kannada district in 1979. He functioned as member of All India Photographers Association and honorary president of Moodidri zone Photographers Association.
Members of South Kanara Photographers Association Moodbidri unit paid respect to the late Raghava by suspending their work since Tuesday afternoon. Associaton president, Ravi Kotian, district president, Wilson and other office bearers visited the residence of the deceased and condoled his death.
