Mangaluru: Four injured as car hits cow, protective wall on highway at Mulky

Mangaluru, Jun 20: Four people sustained severe injuries after a car which went out of the control of the driver hit a cow and then smashed into the protective wall by the side of national highway 66 at Kokkarkal, Mulky, in the afternoon on Tuesday June 19.

The injured persons were Muhammed Yasir (20), Ajmal (18), Ummer (18) and Fazal (19) from Kozhikode, Kerala. Yasir was driving the vehicle. They stand admitted into a private hospital at Mukka in the taluk.

The Innova car driven by Yasir that was moving towards the city from Udupi hit a cow that was grazing on the road divider after it suddenly crossed the path of the vehicle. When the driver tried to avoid the accident, the car went out of his control and hit the cow and then the roadside protective wall.

The car was so badly mangled in the accident that the survival of those inside the car appeared to be miraculous. The locals immediately took the injured persons to hospital. Traffic on national highway was affected, and the police cleared the car from the road and allowed resumption of smooth traffic.

Reportedly, the injured persons, who are PU students in a college at Kozhikode, had come by car to visit places like Madikeri, Udupi, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada etc. The cow escaped with some injuries and it does not face any danger to life, sources stated.
