Mangaluru: Waste disposal dispute - MLA intervenes, asks firm not to hold stir

Mangaluru, Jun 18: Intervening in the dispute between the city corporation here and Antony Waste Management to which contract to dispose garbage of the city has been entrusted, city (south) MLA, D Vedavyas Kamath, instructed the contracting company not to undertake stir for whatever reason they might have. He asked them to bring to his notice if they have any problems.

He said that if the waste handling persons suddenly go on strike, people of the city face undue hardships. "If the personnel of the contracting firm suspend work and go on strike because of lack of communication between the contractors and the corporation, common people of the city are the ones who suffer," he noted.

Kamath stated that he already has held discussions with the city corporation commissioner, health officer and officials of the garbage disposal contracting firm and instructed the corporation to disburse two crore rupees which is pending payment to the firm concerned. He instructed the contractors to begin suspended work immediately and clean the roads of waste materials and garbage.

After the legislator assured about bill payment, staff of the waste handling company began work. He warned them not to resort to flash strike henceforth.

    Every Residents of the Mangalore City Corporation has to pay for the services rendered by the Corporation, at the same time it is the duty of the Corporation to collect it. If the Residents or the Corporation fail in their duty, then these things happen. It is the novel duty of the Corporator to educate and convince people to do their part.
