Udupi, Sep 21: The district unit of the Muslim welfare association held a friendly 'Iftar' meet on Saturday September 20 at the Jamiya Masjid campus. Fr Mathew Vaz, parish priest, Mother of Sorrow church, was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the disharmony prevailing in society can be attributed to a lack of proper knowledge of religious works. The frequent reading of holy books opens new vistas of spiritual awakening, he said.
Fr Vaz added that fasting during Ramzan leads the community to divinity and symbolizes unity. Loving brethren, harmonious living, and unity, are a necessity in society and everyone should realize that we are all humans and Indians first, he said.
Yasin Malpe, president, district muslim federation, presided over the event. MLA Raghupaty Bhat, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, Jayakar Shetty, president, Indrali Yuva Bantara Sangh, Mohammed Salim, masjid administrator, and Budan Baba Saheb, member, Wakf Board, were present.
Moulana Ayoub recited verses from the Holy Quran on this occasion. Qamaruddin welcomed the gathering while Amin Hassan compered the programme
