Udupi, Jun 16: Regular voluntary blood donors, apheresis donors and rare donors and Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane and voluntary blood donation associations were recognized and honored by blood bank, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal during the function organized on the occasion of World Blood Donors’ Day, at Interact Ground Floor, KMC Manipal on June 14.
Towards improvement of blood bank services, a fully automated immunohematology equipment, IH-500 was launched by Dr Poornima Baliga, pro-vice chancellor, faculty of health sciences of MAHE. Dr Shamee Shastry, professor and head of blood bank gave an overview of blood bank services and Dr Prgana Rao, dean, KMC Manipal, honored the winners of best employee award instituted by Dr Satish Shetty charitable trust and the best audio-visual material on the theme of World Blood Donors’ Day.
C G Muthana, chief operating officer of Kasturba Hospital, felicitated the president of Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane for having organizing the highest number of blood donation camps. The medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Dr Avinash Shetty mentioned the contribution of Dr G Shankar towards motivating voluntary blood donors and for organizing blood donation drives all over the year. “Our blood bank has adopted state of the art technology like nucleic acid testing to ensure safe blood transfusion” said Dr Shetty. Friends group Udupi, Dinesh Bhandavya, and Balakrishna Maddodi, the promoters of voluntary blood donation were honored during the occasion. Saveena and Krishna Bhat received the best technical and non-technical staff awards. The contribution of rare blood donors Guruprasad and Chetan were complemented.
Dr Chidananda Sanju, DAPCU officer, Dr Satish Shetty, former director of blood bank, and Dr Chiranjoy Mukhyopadyaya, associate dean of KMC Manipal were present. Vishwesh compered the programme and Dr Deepika Chenna rendered the vote of thanks.
