Mangaluru, Jun 16: A man lost his life on Friday June 15 when he fell into a fish-farming pond at Baddagadde near Kavoor here. The deceased was Mutha (21) of Badami origin who worked as a coolie.
Mutha was hired to attend to various prawn culture related work in the pond. At around 12 pm on Friday, while on work he slipped and fell into the pond. The pond has about six feet standing water and Mutha, who did not know how to swim drowned it is learnt.
Family members were concerned that Mutha had not returned even at 1.30 pm and went on a search for him. His body was found floating in the pond. A case of unnatural death was thereafter filed at Kavoor police station.
It is said that Mutha had been brought here by his relative on a daily wage basis two weeks back and he was to return to his hometown on Saturday. He used to attend to the work of feeding fish and other similar activity, but it is said that he had no experience of working in standing water and life survival skills in such a scenario.
He was the only son of his parents, it is learnt. As he found working in a pond difficult, he had expressed his desire to return home on Saturday, sources stated.
