Udupi, Sep 19: The men's throwball team of Dandateerta College, Kaup, bagged the taluk championship while the women's team came second in their respective divisions, on Wednesday September 17. The tourney held at Vidhyaniketan play ground was jointly organized by the higher secondary education department and Kaup Vidhyaniketan.
Kaup Dandateerta College men’s team defeated Vidhyaniketan team in the finals with a score of 25-8, 25-18 to bag the trophy. Udupi Government Pre-University College women’s team defeated the Dandateerta team in the finals 25–14, 25–19.
Earlier, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon had inaugurated the tourney and said that European countries that fared well in the recent Beijing Olympics did so because of their physical stamina and food habits. It’s a healthy sign that sports enthusiasts are giving equal importance to sports other than cricket, he said.
Taluk sports committee secretary and higher secondary education physical education director Vishwanath Poojary, referees B P Nayak, Chandrashekar, Navin Shetty, Devendra Hegde, Prabhakar Shetty, and Vidhyaniketan College principal Mohammed Hanif were present.
