Udupi, Jun 9: Thieves broke into Veeranjaneya shrine, a part of Veereshwara temple in Yellooru here on June 7 and decamped with gold and silver jewellery worth about Rs 2 lac.
Temple manager Raghavendra Rao lodged a complaint at Padubidri police station.
The stolen jewellery consists silver ornament, silver jacket of Anjaneya deity, two silver tins, two silver plates, silver foot lamp, silver plate used for Arati and gold chain.
The members of temple administration, officials, staff and hundreds of devotees gathered at the temple soon after the theft came to light.
Locals who suspected that the thieves might have thrown the valuables in the lake in front of the temple, jumped into it and searched for them. However, they could not find any.
Kaup police circle inspector V S Halamurthy Rao, Padubidri police and forensic experts rushed to the spot and conducted investigations.
