Mangalore, Sep 17: The academic council of Mangalore University has approved the draft rules governing the re-employment of retired teachers both in the university and affiliated colleges.
The meeting, presided by university vice-chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa decided that the professors in case of university and professors, readers and lecturers in selection grade in case of affiliated colleges, may be re-appointed.
Only the sanctioned vacancies that remain unfilled in the university or the college for more than a year may be filled up in this way. The number of such appointments should never exceed 50% of the identified vacancies. The superannuated lecturers or professors can be appointed only against regular sanctioned posts, which could not be filled for various reasons.
The tenure of such appointments will be three years at a time, or the person attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
The emoluments for the person so absorbed will be his last drawn pay minus the pension amount. The net amount will be paid as a consolidated amount, to be paid without any change during the entire tenure of the person.
The council also approved the syllabus for MA English in St Agnes College, with some changes.
