Vijayapura, Jun 5: The case of mysterious rape and murder of a minor girl at Sindagi village in the district five days ago has been resolved by the police. It is gathered that the girl, who was grazing sheep, was enticed by a man who offered to give her tender coconut to drink. He however raped her and killed her before escaping.
The mysterious disappearance of the girl had given rise to lot of worry in the district as there had been rumours about child thieves being on the prowl. The girl's mortal remains were found on the next day and the police succeeded in unravelling the mystery in five days.
Now, a case has been registered against Sharanappa, who has been accused of raping and murdering the girl, under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Another accused, Imam Sab,, has been booked for attempt to destroy evidence.
Initially the parents of the girl had believed the murder to be handiwork of child traffickers. Sindagi police, who began work on the case from very first day, observed through CCTV camera footage in the area that a person was moving about suspiciously. They then took him into custody and interrogated him, thus solving the case.
The girl was grazing sheep in the field, when a friend of her father approached her with the offer of giving her tender coconut, duly showing a coconut tree standing at a distance. He raped her there and fled after killing her. The parents, who went in search of the girl the whole night as she did not return in the evening, became apprehensive and then filed complaint in Sindagi police station the next day.
