Udupi, Jun 5: In a tragic incident which happened at Saibrakatte within Kota police station limits on Monday June 4, a police personnel suffered heart attack and breathed his last in a bus on his return home after office hours.
The deceased has been identified as Vasant Poojary (39) from Madamakki in Kundapur taluk. He was posted as an employee of the district armed police force in the city. After duty hours at a private bank in the city, he was on his return home at around 1.30 pm by a private bus when he complained of chest pain borne out of acidity. Shortly after he told the bus conductor about his acidity problem, he began to writhe in pain. The conductor felt that Poojary was epileptic and hence handed over a key to him, but the policeman continued to struggle for breath.
The bus staff made a call to Saibrakatte and asked the concerned to make available the services of a doctor. The vehicle then rushed to Saibrakatte. On arrival there, the doctor examined the police constable and found that he had already breathed his last.
The deceased is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. Kota police visited the spot and registered a case. His mortal remains were kept in the mortuary of the government hospital at Ajjarkad here. District superintendent of police, Laxman Nimbargi, additional superintendent of police, Kumarchandra, deputy superintendent of police, Jaishankar, district armed reserve police inspector, Raghavendra and others visited the hospital and paid their last respects.
Poojary had joined the police force in 2003 and had also served for sometime in the forest police squad.
