Mangaluru, Jun 4: MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday, June 4 expressed confidence of winning the MLC elections to be held for the Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies.
Addressing the media, he said, “The election for Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies will be held on June 8. K K Manjunath and S P Dinesh are Congress’ candidates for the two constituencies. Since one and a half years, they are very much engaged in campaigning in districts which come under their respective constituencies. Last time, we lost both the seats of the Legislative Council by a small margin. This time, we are confident of securing victory.
“Siddaramaiah led Congress government did a lot of good things for the teachers and graduates. In the issues of increment and other facilities, we brought in revolutionary changes. We implemented various schemes for teachers. Congress always treats teachers with respect. Meanwhile, BJP is never bothered about teachers and their issues. Whenever we raised issues of teachers in the assembly, BJP boycotted the session or they did not coordinate with us. They never stood with teachers in their difficult times. Now they are distributing gift items to the voters and trying to woo them. But they should understand that their gimmicks will not work this time and teachers will elect Congress candidates,” he said.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ivan D’Souza said, “Before coming to power, Modi said that he would generate crores of job opportunities.
But now, after four years of his tenure, he asks graduates to sell 'Pakoda'. When asking serious questions on the issues of unemployment, he is running abroad. His party also is silent regarding the issues of graduates. How can they ask votes from graduates? Congress is the only party which is trying to find solution for unemployment. In the state, Siddaramaiah implemented many programmes for youth and graduates. So definitely, they will back Congress’ candidates in the MLC polls.”
Senior leader Ibrahim Kodijal, corporator Asha D’Silva and others were present.
