Kundapur, Jun 4: "We are in the opposition as we have accepted the democratic system. Activists of our party need not get disappointed over this fact. The coalition government of JD(S) and Congress will not last for more than three or four months. The government will collapse for the sins committed by Congress," said Shoba Karandlaje, MP of Udupi - Chikkamagaluru.
Shobha addressed a thanksgiving function for BJP activists who had worked hard toward the victory of Halady Srinivas Shetty at the recently held legislative assembly elections. The programme was organized on Sunday June 3 at the Sahana Convention Hall at Ankadakatte in Koteshwar near here.
Continuing her address Shobha said, "Earlier, in 2004 JD(S) had an alliance with Congress in order to rule the state. At that time a well-mannered person was the chief minister of the state. Even then, everyone knows how the two parties conducted themselves. This time around also there is no faith that this coalition government will last long. When we see the present system of power-sharing and the anxiety of Siddaramaiah, we get a feeling that this government will not last for even two or three months. That is why there is no need for us to get disheartened. Activists of our party need not get disappointed.
"What kind of devastation the recent rain has caused in the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. However, the government has not taken any action. In the last 15 days, 15 farmers have committed suicide in the state. JD(S), which has got a total of 37 seats and Congress which has bagged 78 seats are ruling the state. The ministry is still not formed. No one knows who will become the ministers. The Congress party, which is projecting to make Rahul Gandhi as the prime minister in the coming Lok Sabha elections of 2019 has created a situation wherein they have to kneel down in front of JD(S), which has won just 37 seats. The country, people and the Congress party have to think whether it is possible to compare prime ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi with Narendra Modi, who has worked without any black spot and has also brought respect to our country in India as well as in foreign countries."
Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLA of Kundapur thanked the people and the activists of the party who made him victorious by a huge margin. He also said that he will work unabated as per the expectation of the people.
Autorickshaw drivers Satish Prabhu and Prakash Belloor were felicitated during the programme. A tribute was offered to Mahesh Hegde who died in an accident.
The programme was presided over by Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president of Udupi district BJP. Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, member of state BJP executive committee, Sandhya Ramesh, chief secretary, Udupi district BJP, Ganapathy T Sriyan, secretary, Raghavendra Kanchan, Pratap Hegde, Suprita Uday Kulal, Srilatha Suresh Shetty, Laxmi Manju Billava, all members of zilla panchayat, Jayashree Mogaveera, president taluk panchayat, Janaki Billava, president of mahila morcha, Jyoti Uday Poojary, district secretary, Sadanand Balkur and Sathish Vakwadi, president BJP yuva morcha were present.
