Udupi, Jun 2: Fr Vishal Lobo transferred from Basrur parish took charge as the first parish priest of new Shirva Pilar church. Udupi bishop Dr Jerald Isaac Lobo had earlier proclaimed the parish as independent. Chief priest of the Church of the Mother of Sorrows Fr Valerian Mendonca who had arrived as the representative of the bishop, conducted the formalities of the transfer of responsibilities.
Shirva church parish priest and Pilar church in-charge, Fr Stany Tauro handed over the records of the new church. Vice-president of the parish pastoral council, Wilson D'Souza handed over details of accounts. The bishop's representative handed over the key of the tabernacle and symbolically transferred the charge of the parish priest.
Don Bosco Saleshian organization priest Kiran Nazareth who worked relentlessly for the construction of the church was felicitated by Shirva church parish priest and Pilar church in-charge Fr Stany Tauro in the hall programme which was held later.
Fr Stany Tauro remembered the love of the people and service and commended the service of young men for the construction of the church.
Fr Stany Tauro was felicitated on behalf of the parish. Newly appointed priest Fr Vishal Lobo assured that he will serve sincerely to gain the love of parishioners and try to bring about religious and social development among them.
Wilson D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Pilar church pastoral council administrator Valerian Machado rendered the vote of thanks. Don Bosco School principal Fr Mahesh D'Souza compered the programme.
