BCS Condemns Attacks On Churches, Seeks Release of Youths Arrested

Mumbai, Sep 16: The Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS) has in a press release issued on Monday September 15, strongly condemned the attacks on Christian churches in Karnataka. The Sabha also demanded the release of  40 youths arrested in Mangalore and withdrawal of charges filed against them.

We demand security for all churches, schools, and personnel in Christian organizations all across Karnataka. We urge the Governor and the chief minister to rein in the fundamentalists and not allow the state to go the Orissa way.

The pluralistic fibre of the nation is being ripped apart by such unwarranted attacks on Christian institutions and personnel. We urge all citizens to raise their voices against such fascist forces who are out to break the unity of the nation, the press release said.

Our passive silence emboldens such elements to continue their violent attacks against innocent people with impunity. The press release also questioned whether there was any hope for minorities to live  without fear.
