Udupi, Sep 14: The Institution of Engineers (India), Mangalore Local Centre, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Engineers' Association, and Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, jointly organized a seminar on ‘Planet Earth’ on the occasion of 41st Engineers’ Day Celebrations on Saturday September 13.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig S S Pabla, pro-vice-chancellor of Manipal University said, 'We have polluted our rivers. Our resources are becoming scarce, particularly in India, due to our population. Earlier water, food, and shelter, were available for free. Not so now. In many places, people buy water. The way we are living now is harming the earth. We need to take corrective steps,' he opined.
J Mascarenhas, chairman of the Institution of Engineers, presided over the function. Dr H N Udayashankar, director (admissions), Manipal University, Dr K Balakrishna, reader, department of civil engineering, MIT, and Dr Radhakrishnan K, assistant professor, department of civil engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte, spoke on the occasion. Dr K S Aithal proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Jagannath K compered the programme.
