Udupi, May 25: Policemen attached to Kaup station on Thursday May 24, raided a slaughterhouse that was being illegally operated behind Sunni Centre in Muloor village near Kaup. They seized beef from the venue and arrested a man.
The slaughterhouse mentioned above was operational near the old house of Zoharabi behind Sunni Centre, Muloor. Hammabba (55), who was found preparing beef by slaughtering bovine calves, was arrested. About 20 kg of beef was confiscated. Two others, Kabir and Razwan, fled from the spot during the raid, it is learnt.
The police seized beef, tarpaulin, machete, plastic box, skulls of slaughtered animals, pelts, open can, animal waste, wooden log used to chop the beef etc.
Kaup police sub-inspector, Nityananda Gowda, led the operation with other personnel of the station. It is said that during interrogation, Hammabba revealed that stolen animals were brought to the slaughterhouse run by him, where the animals are slaughtered and beef is prepared and sold.
The police are trying to arrest the two persons who fled from the spot.
