Bengaluru, May 24: Heavy rain coupled with lightning pounded several parts of the state including the city, Mandya and Mangaluru on Wednesday May 23. Most parts of the city too was soaked in heavy rain in the afternoon. The unexpected rainfall also gave anxious moments to the chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy's wearing-in ceremony.
A number of trees fell to the ground and low lying areas were inundated in the city. Vehicle riders had a tough time to ride through flowing water.
Some parts of Tumakuru district also received heavy rain, and Ramakrishna (48) from Madhavarayanapalya in Pavagada taluk died after lightning struck him. He was returning home after attending to agricultural work when he was struck by lightning. Six other deaths occurred in Sindhanur, Sandur, Gadag, Haveri and Yalburga taluks.
