Madikeri, May 24: In a ghastly incident which happened in Valagunda village in Somwarpet taluk, a female worker killed another woman with a sickle.
Umavathi (45), wife of P P Raju from Masagodu village was killed in this fashion. Pushpa (46), wife of Anand, resident of line houses in Valagunda village has been accused of committing this dastardly act.
It is said that Umavathi, who was suffering from fever, was asleep on the front room of a line of houses on Monday when Pushpa came there and asked Umavathi to move away. Umavathi refused, following which a verbal altercation ensued. The quarrel culminated with Pushpa hitting Umavathi in the forehead with a sickle as a result of which Umavathi suffered grievous injuries. Umavathi was provided with preliminary care at the Somwarpet hospital before being admitted into the government hospital at Mysuru. She breathed her last at the hospital on Wednesday.
On the basis of a complaint made by Raju, husband of the deceased, the Somwarpet police have registered a case charging Pushpa of murder. The murder-accused has been arrested.
