Mangaluru, May 22: National Cadet Corps headquarters in association with KMC hospital conducted a day-long 'Free heart screening and comprehensive' here at NCC headquarters unit run canteen, Pandeshwar on Tuesday, May 22, for in-service and retired defence forces personnel, their dependents and NCC staff.
KMC interventional cardiologist Dr Padmanabh Kamath said, "Today we are conducting free health check up at NCC headquarters. Doctor from KMC has come to this unit run canteen as lot of retired servicemen and army personnel come here to take groceries. Mangaluru has over 2,000 ex-servicemen. Hence, we are conducting this check up for them where they can take groceries and at the same time, can undergo health check up.”
Training officer NCC group headquarters Lt Col Amit Ashri said, "This is a social service concept. We have the unit run canteen catering to the needs of ex-servicemen as well as the family of in-service armed force personnel. This concept is primarily for veterans in co-operation with KMC Hospital. In Mangaluru, there are 4,778 ex-servicemen and this canteen caters to all veteran, families, widows of armed force personnel. KMC has given us lab technician and doctors. Any veteran who comes to buy groceries can undergo free health check-up. After basic primary screening, if they need further assistance, they can get treated at any hospital under ex-servicemen health schemes.”
