Chikkamagaluru, May 18: Sri Veerasomeshwara Swamiji of Rambhapuri Math, Balehonnur, said that Congress party faced reverses because of its efforts to break Veerashaiva Lingayat community. He termed the efforts now being made by Congress and JD(S) parties as an attempt to inflict injustice on Veerashaiva Lingayat community.
He said that successive attempts have been made to crush the aspirations of leaders belonging to Veerashaiva Lingayat community. He recollected that in the past, Veerendra Patil had been unceremoniously brought down from the post of the chief minister and H D Kumaraswamy had refused to meet his own promise of handing over chief ministership to Yeddyurappa after the former's term ended. Addressing a press conference on Thursday May 17, he stated that the community has been keeping in mind these incidents that have left an indelible mark on them.
"BJP has got maximum number of seats in this election. Congress and JD(S) have come together to deprive Yeddyurappa his rightful share of power. If this attitude continues, a day might come in which the entire Veerashaiva Lingayat community will totally withdraw its support to Congress and JD(S) parties," he warned.
The Swamiji said that all communities should be given their due share and that the state governor was right in inviting Yeddyurappa to form the government and constitutionally too he was justified in doing so.
