Mangalore, Sep 10: All-India women's Congress vice-president Kalpana Devi has said that the women's Congress will be launching a rural-centric awareness campaign to publicize achievements of the union government headed by UPA and the state unit of the party.
Speaking to reporters at the Dakshina Kannada district Congress office recently, she said the awareness campaign is being launched with support from Kissan Cell, non-government organizations and Stree Shakti self help groups, keeping an eye on the ensuing Lok Sabha election, as per the instructions of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Realizing the gravity of the problems faced by the farmers of the country as substantiated by scores of farmer-suicides, the union government released around Rs 73,000 crore for loan waiver. It has passed the Act against atrocities on women and released a huge sum for strengthening self help groups. There is a need to keep the rural youth informed about the pro-people projects the Congress has implemented, she said.
