Kuwait, May 16: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA), for the first time organized ‘Play on Indoor Sports’ event with badminton doubles championship for men and women at the ICSK Junior School Salmiya on May 11. The event was organized exclusively for KCWA members and their family.
The event began with introduction by compere by Anil Fernandes. Harry Fernandes recited opening prayer. President Hilary Stevan Rego welcomed the participants as well as guests and visiting priest Fr Rony Lewis addressed the gathering.
The Play on Indoor Sports” event was a cluster of 12 board and court games. The board games were UNO, Chess, Carrom without queen, Jenga and Quick Ludo while Court Games were Langadi, Skill Hockey, Blind Throwball, Double Football, Bucket Basketball, Box Cricket and Rally Table Tennis. The participants were divided into four color teams Red, Blue, Green and Yellow comprising of 25 participants each.
Finally, the winner for the indoor games scoring 145 points was bagged by the Green team while the runners-up for the day were Blue team scoring 105 points.
Simultaneously, the badminton championship comprised of 23 teams 20 for men’s doubles and 3 teams for women’s doubles. Winners for men’s doubles were Rony D’Souza and Ancil D’Souza and runners-up Vivian Fernandes and Joyal D’Souza. Winners for women’s doubles were Queenie Pereira and Leena Fernandes and runners-up were Alvita
D’Souza and Venora D’Souza.
The food counter was added with a new twist of items for the first time by KCWA MCs in coordination with Abassiya Konkani Community with special items like Falooda, Snacks, Chips, Juices and Tea was catered by Lavina Furtado, Ozzie Furtado, Ronald Lobo, Precilla Rodrigues, Priya D’Souza, Mable Andrade, Valerian Santhumayor, Jinella Santhumayor, Norbert D’Souza, Harry Fernandes, and Sharel Fernandes.
DJ Ralph Serrao entertained the crowd with his scintillating music while song dedications were handled by Sunitha D’Silva. Photography was handled by Joel Crasta, Lenon Peris, Melroy Lobo, Alger Mathias, Alban D’Souza and Alwyn Noronha. The Badminton championship was refereed by Carmel School physical director Suresh and KCWA PRO Naveen Mascarenhas. The closing ceremony was compered by Walter Santhumayor and sports secretary Hywel Pinto rendered the vote of thanks.
Gilbert Mathias, an ex-committee member and ardent supporter of KCWA for the past several years who is leaving Kuwiat for good was felicitated with a flower bouquet. Anil Fernades spoke few words appreciating Gilbert for his service to KCWA. Spiritual director Fr Noel D’Almeida blessed the gathering with the concluding prayer.
The event was ably compered by Anil Fernandes, Hywel Pinto and Walter Santhumayor. KCWA thanks all those who sponsored and supported the event to make it a grand success. The whole event was well coordinated by Hywel Pinto, Sunitha D’Silva, Arun Dsouza and Allan D’Souza with the support of managing committee members.
