Mangalore, Sep 10: The rains that started three days back have continued to lash the twin districts. The downpour was particularly heavy on the night of Monday September 8. Most of the areas received around 8 to 15 cms of rainfall on that day.
While the rain gave intervals in between in most of the places including the malnad region of the two districts, Karkala taluk has been receiving incessant rainfall.
The farmers are apprehensive that their standing paddy crops might be damaged by heavy rains. Drizzles would have done lot of good to the crops, they opine but the owners of coconut plantations are happy as they feel, the rain is to their advantage.
In case of arecanut plantations too, it is feared that the heavy rains might affect the arecanuts that are ripening. As a whole, the rainfall this season has been patchy, with yawning gaps of dry weather in between. The meteorological department has predicted that the monsoon will be active during the next 48 hours.
