Beltangady, Sep 10: The policemen belonging to Uppinangady police station suceeded in intercepting a vehicle being used by frankincense smugglers and arrested a few of them, at about 5 pm on Monday September 8.
The policemen chased the Maruti-800 vehicle in which the smugglers were fleeing, after collecting frankincese from the Hatyadka sanctury at Boladabail of Kokkada and caught three of them. The other three smugglers in the car took to their heels upon being cornered, giving a slip to the polciemen.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammed Ali(27), son of Mohammed, Abdul Latif (21), son of Abdulla and Abdul Aziz (20), son of Yousuf, all from Kokkada. Monu Kaka alias M P Ibrahiam, son of Ahmed Beary, Mustaf, son of M P Ibrahim and s K Hakim, son of Yousuf were the persons who succeeded in fleeing from the scene.
The police have confiscated 60 kgs of frankincense valued at Rs 8,000 and also the Maruti-800 car used by the culprits. Sub-inspect of police M G Nayak assisted by policemen Mohan, Kushalappa, Devraj, Navin, Krishnappa and Vishwanath participated in the operation.
