Bengaluru, May 14: Rain fury continued on Sunday May 13 in the state. As a result, a youth died in Udupi district after a tree got uprooted on him. An old man died due to lightning in Hassan district. Two persons who were being washed away in a stream were saved by officials who came to their rescue in time.
A large number of trees and electric poles fell to the ground in Bengaluru rural, Tumakuru ad neighbouring districts. Districts like Ballari, Haveri, Raichur, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada and Kodagu district got moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Ninge Gowda (65), a retired government employee from Hanasavalli in Alur taluk, Hassan district, died due to lightning. Ravi Devadiga (27) from Kalavara in Kundapur taluk died after getting crushed under a falling tree.
A part of the flyover under construction at Hangarahalli in Holenarasipur taluk, Hassan district, gave way and crashed due to heavy rainfall. A house belonging to Bharamappa in Battur village in Gadag district was partly damaged due to lightning.
Hirehalla steam in Bhanapura inYalburga taluk, Koppal district, overflowed due to sudden rain on Friday late night. Guddeppa Chalawadi and Kalakanagouda Tomgihal from Kukanur village were washed away in flash flood. Fire brigade and police came to their rescue and succeeded in saving their lives with the help of ropes.
The meteorological department has warned about the possibility of strong wind and rain for two more days in the state.
